An Inspector Calls by J B Priestley is a play that revolves around the apparent suicide of a women called Eva Smith. In the play, The Birling family get a visit from Inspector Goole. He arrives during the celebration of the engagement between Sheila Birling and Gerarld Croft. The inspector tells them that a girl called Eva Smith has taken her own life by drinking disinfectant. Although the family find it disturbing, they are confused as to why the inspector has come to tell them. Throughout the story a tense and uncomfortable investigation is taken by the inspector through which the family discover that they are in fact caught up in Eva Smith's death.
